Too fat to model? Surely, you jest!

fat-model.jpg

I know that this isn’t a new news item, but I just happened upon a photo of this stunning young lady, and I’m flabbergasted.

Jen Hunter, 24, was a competitor in the British television show, “Make Me a Supermodel”, and was chided for being too fat. After being made so publicly uncomfortable, Ms. Hunter has opted to work as a plus size model, despite the fact that she’s obviously not overweight.

And we think that this is only an American problem. I guess not.

For the over thirty-five set…

Interesting article and video segment from the Wall Street Journal yesterday, talking about how to stay young and hip without looking too “tarty” (that’s my paraphrasing right there). I don’t know about this “yummy mommy” stuff they talk about. That kind of makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little bit. I’m not aiming to look like a soccer mom on the go, but if that’s what Bloomingdale’s is going for with its new Quotation line, so be it. Just thought you guys might find some sort of value in this. Hmm…

Target sued by the blind…

target-sued.jpg

Styledash posted this interesting article about the blind community suing target for failing to accommodate their internet shopping needs. Click here to read their post. Personally, I think this is silly. I’m not lacking in compassion for those with disabilities (I used to be a teacher for the disabled) at all. I can’t even understand why someone who’s blind would want to shop with Target online when they can go to a brick and mortar and have a better idea of what they’re buying. I know there are some circumstances where you can order things online that you can’t get in the store… and if I were blind, I think I’d just ask a friend to order it for me. What do you guys think? Is this pushing the envelope just a touch too far?

Interesting Dior article in Wall Street Journal…

untitled-1.jpg

WSJ recently printed this piece about Dior giving themselves a makeover- moving past the pink girly line of old to that which is more streamlined and mature. Basically, they’ve seen the light and no longer want to cater to the twenty-something crowd who will buy a bag or a “J’adore Dior” t-shirt just for the status.

TMZ vs. Sarah Jessica Parker and Pat Field…

tmz-n-satc.jpg

One of the not so great things about fashion blogging is the incessant feeling that I HAVE to check out the gossip sites because they are yet another source of blog fodder. Such is the case with TMZ’s recent posting about an outfit that SJP was wearing during the filming of the Sex and the City movie in Manhattan.

And I quote…

“As if giant flowers weren’t bad enough, “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker is now looking to inspire forty-year-old women across the country to wear … thigh-high stockings! Little Middle-Aged Orphan Carrie!

While shooting the SATC movie in Manhattan this weekend, the 42-year-old alleged fashion plate’s ridiculous half-gloves, Hester Prynn shoes and schoolgirl thigh-highs hit a new low!

If this keeps up, the only thing Carrie Bradshaw will need to wear is a straitjacket!”

I don’t know about you, but I think TMZ is completely off their mark here. Who are they to judge fashion… let alone Pat Field? Perhaps what they don’t realize is that this is a woman who STARTS trends and doesn’t ride the out the wave. I dare any one of their staff (more specifically, the author of this piece) to do a walk off with SJP on any given day. Ten bucks says she could even beat them in her Bitten pj’s!

Blasphemous, absurd, preposterous, and embarrassing… they just don’t seem to know it yet.
